Thurs, 4/29 / Game J13: Paper Mill 9, Thunder Bunnies - 8
The Paper Mill overcame solid team defense by the Thunder Bunnies to win an exciting, well-played game. Erin N and Brooke M combined for 5 strong innings on the mound. Emily W had 2 doubles, a single and 3 RBI to lead the Paper Mill's Offense. Erin N also added a great play on defense. Lindsay V led the Thunder Bunnies with a triple and a double.

Weds, 4/21 / Game I3: Robert Wright - 10, Paper Mill - 10
These two teams opened their season with an incredibly exciting game that saw many lead changes and ties throughout. The outcome was in doubt until the final out was recorded by Robert Wright on a close play at the plate that preserved the tie in the gathering darkness.
Both teams worked out their off-season rust with timely hitting, alert baserunning and some great plays in the field. Wright was lead by Nyla's 3 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Taylor, Sarah & Devin each scored 2 runs, with Sarah, Bailey & Ellie contributing key RBIs. Danika found a variety of ways to reach base all 3 times at the plate.
Defensively, Haley, Nyla, Sarah & Bailey all made nice plays. It would've been a shame for either team to walk away with a loss after such a great game.
Sat. 4/24 / Game I8: Robert Wright - 16, Strategic Employee Benefits - 1
You couldn't have asked for a nicer late April day to play a game.
Both teams played well, but Robert Wright's pitching (as well as the fact that SEB was missing some key players) proved to be the difference. Emily B. of SEB spoiled the no-hit bid of Sarah and Devin with two nice hits. For Wright, Marissa & Haley reached base all 3 times up, scoring 2 runs each and Emily had a nice 2-3 day with 2 runs scored. Nyla came through with 2 RBIs, going 3-3. Wright's pitching kept the pressure off their defense, but when tested, Gabriela came through with a nice play at 2nd.
Sat. 4/30 / Game I18: Strategic Employee Benefits- 11, Andrianos - 6
The game was highlighted by excellent pitching by SEB's Maddy and Olivia, along with Andriano's Shelsea. SEB was able to achieve the win thanks to Cassandra, Cassidy and Jessica hitting the ball hard at the plate. Emily B. - catcher - and Olivia - pitcher - together got a runner out at home plate. Alison scored a home run for the team while Gabi got a double and Olivia got a triple. Emily S., Elizabeth (first-time player this season!) and Karly each scored two runs. Jessica scooped a ball up in the outfield and rocketed it in to prevent a run from scoring. Ashliann (on the DL) did the scoreboard. Andriano's players were great at bat and made great efforts in the field. Great play by all!
Sat. 5/1 / Game I20: Rhodes Remodeling - 10, Robert Wright - 9
This was an exciting, well-played game on an unusually hot early May day. Both teams played extremely well, with the game in doubt until the final out was made with the tying run on 2nd. Rhodes jumped out to a quick lead and though Wright kept fighting back — and even took the lead at one point — the team in pink always had the answer. Rhodes' 2, 3 & 4 hitters (Nina, Hailey and Chelsea) proved to be too much for Wright to handle, scoring 7 runs among them. Rhodes pitchers, Hailey & Amy, were on fire, issuing only one walk in 7 innings. Robert Wright was lead by Taylor, who reached base and scored all 3 times she got up. Emily, Alicia & Nyla also had nice days at the plate, each going 3-3. There were several other Wright girls who contributed at the plate, too many to list here. Emily, Taylor & Nyla also contributed beautiful plays in the field. After it was over, players, coaches, fans and even umps were saying it was a truly memorable game.
Sat. 5/1 / Game I21: Robert Wright - 11, Cap Comm FCU - 6
This was the 2nd game of a doubleheader for both teams, played on an unseasonably hot, humid day, but you wouldn't have known it by the level of play. After a scoreless 1st inning, there was at least one run scored in a every inning. Robert Wright jumped out to a quick lead, only to watch Cap Com storm back and take the lead and then build on it. Wright responded to take back the lead in the 4th, but Cap Com came back to tie it in the 5th. It was then Wright's pitching and defense stepped up to hold Cap Com scoreless the rest of the way, while putting a few more runs up to seal the win. Offensive standouts for Wright included Alicia, with a nice 2 RBI double and 2 runs each from Sarah, Nyla and Danika. Haley, Ellie, Devin and Gabriela contributed nice hits. The excellent pitching of Devin and Sarah was supported by a couple defensive gems by Nyla. Props to our catchers, Bailey and Danika, for playing 2 games in that heat, and we can't forget to thank our subs, Katie and Isabelle, for helping us out and playing great, each scoring a run.
Weds, 5/5 / Game I28: Robert Wright - 20, Havill's Automotive - 3
Sometimes it seems like every ball a team hits finds a hole and every ball the other team hits finds a glove, and this was one of those kind of games. Despite great effort by the Havill team, Robert Wright just seemed like they could do no wrong. The pitching of Taylor, Devin and Sarah was excellent, as was the defense behind them. Emily, Gabriela & Danika made particularly nice plays in the field. Everybody contributed offensively with at least a run or an RBI, but shout outs to Alicia for her 3-3, 2 run, 2 RBI night and Marissa for her 2 RBIs. To top it all off, the weather could not have been any nicer.
Weds, 5/11 / Game I38: Strategic Employee Benefits - 17, Cap Comm FCU 12
Nice hitting and pitching by both teams. Great in fielding by Elizabeth at 3rd, Ashliann, and Cassidy at SS. Double play with Emily B. catcher and Gabi SS. All girls did great at bats, Alison and Alexis with a double, Cassidy with a triple,Cassandra, Gabi and Cassidy with RBI's. Emily B. with a nice delayed steel at home plate. Great game SEBS !
Tues, 5/11 / Game I39: Robert Wright - 10, Stannard & Sons - 9
An incredible, well-played, back-and-forth, tense, exciting game ... just another freezing cold night at Line Drive. Stannard jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 2nd and Wright inched back. Wright took a 7-5 lead in the 3rd and Stannard inched back, tying it in the 4th. The two teams exchanged runs in the 5th and Stannard took a 1 run lead in the top of the 6th. Wright came back to score 2 in the bottom of the inning and then held Stannard scoreless in the 7th to secure the win.
There were big hits and great plays by both sides all game. Wright was lead by the defense and crucial lead-off hit in the 6th by Taylor, who also threw an inning of pitching. Danika contributed 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs, and Amanda had a nice night at the plate, going 2-2 with 2 RBIs, including an RBI sac bunt. Stannard put incredible pressure on the Wright defense, striking out only 4 times all game, forcing them to make plays. And make them they did, most notably Haley's grab of a hard line drive in the 3rd. I could go on and on, but our hats are off to a great Stannard squad who fought hard and made it as close as could be despite missing one of their top players to injury.
Sat. 5/15 / Game I47: Robert Wright - 15, Ten Broeck - 13
A battle between two depleted teams, this one was in doubt until the end. Ten Broeck jumped out to a 4-3 lead after one, Wright tied it at 7 in the second. It stayed tied 11-11 after 3 and it felt like it would go on like that all game until Wright made a defensive stand in the 4th on the strength of Gabriela's great catch in deep right center. Although the sac fly drove in a run, the catch changed the momentum of the game. That was the only run Ten Broeck scored that inning. After Wright scored 4 in the bottom of the 4th, both defenses tightened up and only one run was scored by either team the rest of the way. Emily also made a couple of nice defensive plays, throwing out runners at 1st from from RCF in the 2nd and from SS in 5th. Wright managed only 2 hits all game off Ten Broeck's pitchers... a beautiful lead-off bunt in the 1st by Danika, who scored 3 runs, and a clean hit by Nyla in the 3rd. Kudos to Amanda, who filled at pitcher for Wright and did an incredible job. And thanks to the subs who played for both teams and played great.
Mon, 5/17 / Game I49: Robert Wright - 10, Mad Dog Bicycles - 5
This was a well-played game that was back-and-forth until Robert Wright broke loose in the 6th with 4 runs. Both teams put the ball in play a lot, forcing the defense to make plays. Ellie, Marissa and Alicia made nice plays at 2nd for Wright, while Amanda and Nyla had a few gems at 3rd. Devin had a great night on the mound, with her pitching AND her glove, making several nice plays, a big one being a throw to the plate to get an out on a nice tag by Danika. Amanda's pitching was rock-solid once again for Wright. Offensively, the hit of the night belonged to Nyla, whose RBI triple to the fence was the big blow in the 4-run 6th. That same inning saw great hits by Devin and Bailey, and a superb RBI bunt single by Emily. Alicia and Marissa also contributed a couple RBIs to the cause.
Sun, 5/23 / Game I13: Robert Wright - 9, Andriano's - 6
This was a make-up game for an April 26 rainout. It was a beautiful evening over at Field 3 at Elm Ave, bringing back memories from when the girls (and maybe even the coaches) were a little bit smaller. Both teams were hitting well and making plays in the field. The game was very close until Wright scored 4 in the 4th to open up a lead. However, Andriano's came storming back with 4 of their own in the 6th to tighten it right back up, but Wright was able to hang on for the W. Sarah gave the injury-depleted Wright team a boost by coming back from the DL with 3 solid innings of pitching. Devin and Amanda also pitched well. Wright was led offensively by Nyla's 3-3 and 4 RBI performance, and by Marissa's 3-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored night. Ellie contributed 2 sweet hits with an RBI and run scored and Amanda was on base all 4 times up, scoring twice. Marissa had the defensive play of the game, hustling after a well-hit ball that got by her in the outfield and throwing out the hitter at 3rd. Nice night, nice girls, nice game.
Mon, 5/24 / Game I64: Robert Wright - 16, Strategic Employee Benefits - 7
Another beautiful night at Line Drive, making the rainy days of the a few weeks ago seem like a distant memory. Both teams came to play and put on a good show for the fans. The Wright bats came out on fire, but SEB kept it close... it was a one run game headed into the bottom of the 3rd. But Wright kept the pressure on just as their pitchers were starting to find their groove, shutting SEB out the rest of the way. Both teams made some great plays in the field. Wright had 2 great catches in RF, one by Gabriela and one by our sub Olivia. SEB also had an amazing catch in deep LC, robbing Nyla of extra bases. Sarah made a nice snare of a line drive at 1B. Offensively, Wright was led by Sarah, who was 3-3 with a triple, double and single and 3 RBIs. Ellie had a nice RBI single and Danika had an awesome RBI triple. Devin, Amanda and Olivia had multi-hit nights, but everybody on the team contributed in some way. Amanda, Devin, Sarah and Taylor pitched a solid game. Great job all around by both teams.
Tues, 5/25 / Game I62: Robert Wright - 10, Paper Mill - 9
This was a rematch of our first game of the season, an exciting game which ended in a 10-10 tie. Played on an unseasonably hot evening, this game was every bit as exciting, and the score was almost identical. Paper Mill got out to a big 7-2 lead, and with the heat, the injuries to many of their players and the fact that it was 4th game in 4 nights, things looked pretty dire for Robert Wright. But they hung in there and fought back to a 10-7 lead heading into the final inning. Paper Mill wouldn't go quietly, though, scoring 2 runs before Taylor, Marissa and Amanda made great plays in the field to end the inning. Another defensive highlight for Wright was Gabriela's catch of a fly ball to RF in the 6th. Offensively, Wright was led by Devin, who was 2-3 witha double and 2 RBIs. Emily was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and Danika & Sarah were also 2-3 with 1 run scored each. Our subs Jelley and Katie played great and Jelley even contributed a key RBI. After 2 complete games, only one run separated these two fine teams.
Weds, 6/2 / Game I66: Robert Wright - 15, Andriano's - 7
This was a well-played game that saw numerous outstanding defensive plays and clutch hits. Neither team struck out very much, constantly putting the ball in play and the defenses to the test. Nyla, Taylor, Emily, Sarah, Devin and Danika all made very nice plays for Robert Wright. Offensively, Wright was led by Emily, who, on her birthday, went 3-3, with 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Bailey (3-4, 2 runs), Sarah (1-2, 3 RBI, 1 run) and Danika (1-2, 2B, 2 runs) had nice nights at the plate. Everybody was contributing, but kudos to Devin, Taylor and Gabriela for their RBI singles and Ellie for her hit and run scored. Kudos also have to go to the Andriano's girls, who played great and kept fighting until the end.
Mon., 6/7 / Game I32: Robert Wright - 22, Stewart's - 12
This was a make-up game for a rainout earlier in the season. A beautiful evening saw the Robert Wright bats break open what was a close game early. After Wright jumped out to a lead in the 1st, Stewart's came back to take a 6-4 lead after 2. From there, Wright hits started to find gaps and the runs started coming in. Danika (3-3, 4 runs, 1 RBI), Amanda (3-3, 2 2Bs, 3 runs, 1 RBI) and Sarah (3-4, 1 2B, 3 RBIs, 2 runs) had huge nights at the plate, but they certainly weren't alone. Gabriela, Ellie & Marissa manufactured a big two out run in the 2nd with 3 consecutive hits off Stewart's Nikki, who was bringing heat. Bailey scored 3 runs with an RBI on 2-3 hitting. Because Stewart's was putting the ball in play a lot, Wright had to make a lot of plays in the field. In the 1st, Danika made a big catch in LC and threw out a runner at home later in the inning. Devin and Taylor made a couple nice plays at SS, and Bailey made a great play at 3rd. A tip of the Wright caps to Stewart's Ashley, for her massive triple in the 2nd and sharp double down the line in the 6th. Congratulations to both teams on a great season and good luck in the playoffs!
Sat., 6/12 / Bracket A Semifinal: Robert Wright - 12, Paper Mill - 7
Rain had been falling all day, forcing the game to be moved over to Field 2. And the rain wasn't done falling, making this a tough game to play. Both teams handled it well though, and it was close all game. Wright's pitcher hung tough in the wet conditions, led by Sarah's 3 IP, 1 run, 7 K performance. They were all supported by outstanding defense, including sterling plays at SS by Amanda, Taylor and Danika, and a game-changing play at 3rd by Nyla in the 5th. Wright had many offensive highlights, led by Bailey's 3-3, 2 2B, 4 RBI performance. Sarah had a huge RBI triple and Danika reached base 3 out 4 times from the lead off spot, scoring 3 and knocking in 1. Nyla also came up big with a 3-3, 2 RBI, 1 run game. It's a shame the weather had to play a role in this playoff game, but the girls on both teams rose above it.
Sun., 6/13 / Bracket A Championship: Robert Wright - 11, Rhodes Remodeling - 7
Championship Sunday wasn't what we had hoped it would be, with the picnic needing to be postponed because of weather, but the games must go on, and did they ever. This game capped a day of exciting, well-played finals on a gray misty day on Field 3. Robert Wright came out on fire, scoring 4 in the 1st, but Rhodes came right back with 3 of their own in the bottom of the inning. Pitching dominated the 2nd, but Wright struck with 3 in the 3rd, the big blow being a huge triple by Nyla (3-3, 2 RBIs, 2 runs). From there, Wright was able to keep their distance despite constant pressure by Rhodes. Other offensive stars included Amanda (2-4, 1 3B, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Gabriela (huge RBi single in the 4th) and Sarah (1-1, 3 runs). As they had all year, Wright got excellent pitching from Sarah, Devin and Amanda, who combined for 11 Ks. They were backed by an outstanding defense. Emily made a great catch in deep RC in the 3rd, Nyla made a couple of nice plays at SS and 3B, Marissa made a huge play at 2B in the 6th and Danika helped close out the game with 2 plays at 2B. Kudos to the Rhodes girls and coaches for an incredible undefeated regular season. Congrats to Robert Wright for hanging tough all year and finishing strong. See you next year!
